Browns' Josh Gordon to be reinstated by NFL, can attend training camp (Shutdown Corner

Some good news for the Cleveland Browns: receiver Josh Gordon, who had a sensational 2013 season, only to find himself on the sideline for much of the past two years thanks to repeated failures in the NFL drug testing program, can return to the team on a conditional basis. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has given Gordon permission to participate in training camp and preseason games, but Gordon will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season. Since he is suspended under the substance abuse policy and not the performance-enhancing drugs policy, Gordon will be able to be at the Browns’facility and take part in meetings during his suspension. Bad news for Bills overshadows Rex Ryan's rosy outlook (The Associated Press)

A rash of bad news - injuries, suspensions and legal issues - persistently overshadowed the coach's suggestions that the Bills ''won the offseason,'' and were ''a zillion miles ahead'' of where they were a year ago after Ryan took over. Last season was no picnic for Ryan, who failed to deliver on a vow to build a bully. Instead, a high-priced and under-performing defense contributed to Buffalo's 8-8 finish that extended the NFL's longest active playoff drought to 16 seasons. [read full article]

Camp a balancing act as Patriots prepare to be without Brady (The Associated Press)

In many ways, the New England Patriots enter their 2016 training camp as close as they've been in 19 months to ridding themselves of the cloud that has trailed them since the ''Deflategate'' saga began. The NFL challenged that ruling, and the league's punishment was reinstated by an appeals court in April. It means the Patriots will open camp July 27 knowing the cornerstone of their franchise won't be available for the first quarter of the season. [read full article]
